Good afternoon,
Jacket sustainability was a major part of the MBRC current uniform sponsorship program which has now been locked in for the next 4 years.
To enhance this further, MBRC have teamed up with Worn Up and Karbon to offer a sustainable way to dispose of used jackets. Sporting textiles are one of the least items to be resold as they are specific due to the use of sponsorship logos and Worn Up’s Textile Reuse Program captures textile waste before it gets to landfill.
On Sunday 18th July 2021 between 2pm and 4pm, all Mt Buller families will be able to drop in old Karbon jackets that have the MBRC, TBR or Squad logos on them to the Mt Buller Clubhouse and they will then be shipped to Sydney to start their new cycle.
Worn Up then de-trim, clean and dismantle the jackets. The textile material is shredded and starts to process to become new products.
Ed Fortey, Karbon, has generously offered to support this program which will cover some of the costs of freight and processing, all we ask from you is a gold coin donation.
Benefits:
- Prevents jackets from going to landfill and repurposes them into new products
- Work with Worn Up to provide an educational experience for out athletes and build awareness of circular textile solutions
- Become the role model for Circularity on the Mountain and potentially roll out the program to other mountains and sporting clubs
- Worn Up can divert the recovered raw material into a ‘reformed’ product for Mt Buller Race Club to demonstrate circularity

The plan moving forward is to roll this out for other collection points which will be able to collect all jackets for recycling and to brainstorm ideas to use the recovered raw material into a reformed product to use at Mt Buller. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me on 0417 200 640.
Kind regards, Sue & MBRC Staff and Committee
